High School Intern

Position Overview

The High School Intern supports the programs and operations of Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory by assisting program staff and teaching artists with the preparation, organization, and implementation of youth arts programming. This internship provides students with hands-on exposure to careers in the arts, media, and nonprofit sectors while building foundational workplace skills, including communication, organization, teamwork, and responsibility. High School Interns may assist with program preparation, documentation, outreach, and community events.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Program Support

  • Assist program staff and teaching artists with preparation for workshops, classes, and program activities.

  • Help organize and maintain program supplies and materials.

  • Support setup and breakdown for classes, workshops, and program culminations.

  • Assist with organizing classroom or studio spaces before and after programming.

Administrative Support

  • Assist with organizing program documentation including curriculum materials, student samples, and program records.

  • Support organization of shared digital files used for program coordination and reporting.

  • Assist staff with basic administrative tasks related to program operations.

Event & Community Engagement

  • Support preparation for exhibitions, showcases, community events, and program culminations.

  • Assist with community outreach activities including distributing program information and supporting engagement efforts.

  • Provide general logistical support during events and public programs.

Team Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with BHAC staff, teaching artists, interns, and volunteers.

  • Follow workplace expectations including punctuality, communication, and professionalism.

  • Participate in mentorship and learning opportunities provided through the internship.


Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in 10th–12th grade at a high school or continuation school.

  • Interest in arts, media, community programs, or nonprofit work.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, teaching artists, and peers.

  • Strong willingness to learn and take initiative.

  • Ability to assist with organizing supplies and materials.

  • Availability to support occasional evening or weekend events when programs occur.
