The Native American & Indigenous (NAI) Media Arts Program supports Native American and Indigenous youth in developing creative skills while preserving cultural heritage and strengthening representation through media. The program creates space for participants to express their voices, tell their own stories, and build pathways into media arts that honor identity, ancestry, and lived experience.

NAI
NAI Media Arts exists to address long-standing gaps
in representation by ensuring Indigenous stories are created, shaped, and shared by Indigenous people themselves.

Participants engage in hands-on media arts training across audio, video, photography, and digital storytelling. Workshops introduce industry-standard tools and techniques, while projects are grounded in cultural knowledge, storytelling traditions, and community values.
Learning is supported through mentorship from Indigenous Teaching Artists and NAI’s Career Navigator, who provide guidance, encouragement, and professional insight throughout the program.

In addition to creative development, the program supports workforce readiness through skill-building, mentorship, and exposure to professional opportunities in media and creative industries. When funding allows, participants may access paid apprenticeship opportunities that support both learning and economic stability.
The program emphasizes confidence, accountability, and self-determination—preparing participants to carry their creative practice forward in ways that align with their goals and values.
Who Participates
The NAI Media Arts Program serves Native American and Indigenous youth across Los Angeles County. Prior experience in media is not required. Participation is grounded in respect, curiosity, and a commitment to shared learning and cultural integrity.
